| Catherine “Catsy” Wylie Hopkins (Taylor) Schafer |
The First California Company extends condolences to the family of our loyal and generous member Catherine “Catsy” Wylie Hopkins (Taylor) Schafer. Catsy passed away January 11, 2011 just shy of her ninety- seventh birthday. Many of us enjoyed celebrating her ninety-fifth birthday with her at the Getty Center. Catsy was born in Maryland but she and her husband raised their children in Panama. Trained as a nurse, she worked both in the Canal Zone and at the San Diego Naval Hospital. She came to San Diego with her second husband, Lt. Col. Vernon L. Schafer, after the early death of her first husband, William N. Taylor. Catsy was active in many lineage societies. Having both talent and a love of art, Catsy studied and painted coats of arms. She is survived by two daughters, seven grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
